Venus is a 2011 romantic drama film produced by Richard Horwitz Studios for Columbia Pictures. It was directed by Nancy Meyers, with a story by Diane Drake and Meyers. It was released on April 13, 2011 in North America, received generally positive reviews from critics, and grossed over $398 million over its $123 million budget, deeming it a box office success.
Plot[]
Venus Clark is a young 17 year old girl who is struggling with her job at a fast food restaurant, and her parents, Jerry and Callie are in a fight, meaning that she has to take care of her siblings Emma and Charlotte. One day, Venus' parents finally announce that they will be divorcing, leaving her with a choice to stay Callie and Charlotte, or come with Jerry and Emma.
Venus is hesitant at first, but eventually decides to stay with her mom. The next day, Venus works harder than ever at her job after school, and ends up earning a record $300 to give to her mother. However, before they can use the money, they have to go to court to divorce.

In 2005, Richard Horwitz Studios planned a possible spin-off to Shirtless and would begin work on it if the movie did well at the box office. The former grossed $282 million over its budget of $86 million and received generally positive reviews, so in early 2007 they began work on a new movie Venus. The movie was announced in June as an in development film and would get an early 2011 release date in December 2007.

On its opening weekend, Venus made $56.4 million, ranking No. 1 for that weekend. On the second weekend, it made $33.5 million, a 40.6% decline, but still ranking No. 1. On the third weekend, it made $16.1 million, a 52.1% decline, and dropping to No. 2 behind Fast Five. On the fourth weekend, it made $11.7 million, a 27.3% decline, and dropping to No. 5. The movie earned $193.2 million in North America and $205.1 million in foreign markets for a worldwide total of $398.3 million.
Critical reviews[]
On Rotten Tomatoes, Venus has a 68% rating from 239 critics with an average rating of 6.21/10, with a critic consensus that reads "Like Shirtless and its sequel, Venus is a well intentioned film with lots of heart put under." On Metacritic, Venus is assigned a weighted average rating of 56 out of 100, indicating "mixed or average reviews".
