Thomas and Friends is a 2005 British-American stop-motion/computer-animated film produced by Richard Horwitz Studios for Walt Disney Pictures and based off of the PBS Kids TV series. The second film made by Richard Horwitz Studios, it was directed by Steve Asquith and Greg Tierman, from a story by Abi Grant and Marc Seal. It is the first film from Richard Horwitz not to be rated PG-13, and instead has a G rating.
The movie received mixed reviews from critics, but was a box office success, grossing over $198 million worldwide against a budget of $50-55 million. It was released on 23 December 2005 in the United Kingdom, and later on 10 February 2006 in the United States.

The movie opened in theaters in the United States on 10 February 2006 and received a G rating by the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA). In the United Kingdom, it opened on 23 December 2005, where it received a U rating by the British Board of Film Classifications (BBFC).

- The first teaser was released on 22 December 2004, and was shown before Racing Stripes, Pooh's Heffalump Movie, and Robots.
- The second teaser was released on 13 April 2005, and was shown before Jose Venezuela: The Movie, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Crash, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D, Batman Begins, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and Bewitched.

Thomas and Friends was released on DVD and VHS on 13 June 2006. The VHS is exclusive to the Disney Movie Club. It was released on Blu-ray on 21 November 2006, making it the first Richard Horwitz Studios film to be released on Blu-ray. It was rereleased as a two-pack between Thomas and Friends and Thomas and Friends 2 on 20 April 2010, and on Blu-ray 3D along with Shirtless on 21 December 2010. It hasn't been released on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray yet, but however, on 14 October 2019, it was confirmed that Thomas and Friends would be coming to Disney+ along with every other Disney movie and select Fox films.

Thomas and Friends opened on February 10, 2006 in the United States and Canada alongside The Pink Panther, Curious George, Final Destination 3, and Firewall, where it debuted at No. 3 behind The Pink Panther and Final Destination 3, grossing $14.7 million. On its second weekend, the film dropped 19.7%, grossing $11.8 million and dropping to No. 4. On its third, the film dropped 34.5%, grossing $7.8 million over the weekend and dropping to No. 5. As of April 15, 2006, the film grossed $65.1 million in North America, and $133.8 million in other territories, with the UK being the top-seller at $19.2 million, resulting in a worldwide total of $198.9 million.

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 58% "rotten" rating with an average rating of 5.44/10 based off of 66 critics with a critic consensus that reads "Thomas and Friends is colorful enough to distract younger viewers, but is too boring for those older viewers." On another aggregator Metacritic, which assigns a normalized average gave the movie a score of 50/100 from 32 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."
