It was released on October 27, 2010, received generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $328 million over its $100 million budget.

The Mexican Outcast opened in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2D, Digital 3D, and RealD 3D on October 27, 2010. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the film opened on November 11 and was given a PG rating by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).

- The first teaser trailer was released on November 25, 2009 and was shown before Thomas and Friends 2, The Princess and the Frog, Alice in Wonderland, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, How to Train Your Dragon, Iron Man 2, and Shrek Forever After.
- The theatrical trailer was released on June 18, 2010 and was shown before Toy Story 3, The Last Airbender, Despicable Me, The Dot and Dash Movie 2, and Alpha and Omega.
- TV spots aired between October 4 and November 10, 2010.

The Mexican Outcast was released on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on February 15, 2011 in the United States and Canada. It was later re-issued on DVD on October 23, 2012. It was re-released on Blu-ray and released on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray on November 15, 2016, then added to Netflix a year later on November 15, 2017. The film got another re-release on DVD and Blu-ray on October 23, 2018.

The Mexican Outcast opened on the weekend of October 29-31, 2010, where it made $55.8 million in the United States and Canada, ranking No. 1 for the weekend. As of February 10, 2011, the film made $162 million in domestic markets and $166.4 million in foreign markets, resulting in a worldwide total of $328.4 million.
