Shirtless Two (stylized as shirtless two) is a 2008 live-action drama film produced by Richard Horwitz Studios for TriStar Pictures. Some of the crew from Shirtless return in this sequel, which includes Nancy Meyers and Diane Drake writing the screenplay. However, it is directed by Shona Auerbach, in his second feature film. It is the third film from Richard Horwitz to be given the PG-13 rating. In this sequel, Emma and Adam find themselves drifting apart due to new business opportunities. Emma receives a once-in-a-lifetime fashion deal while Adam tries to balance the love he has for Emma and the fame from his new hit song.
The film premiered on April 9, 2008 at the Regency Village Theatre then released by TriStar Pictures on April 18, where it received mixed reviews from critics, but was a box office success, grossing $459 million worldwide against a $105 million budget.

Production[]
Plans for a Shirtless sequel stretch back to late 2004, when the first movie was in production. Richard Horwitz and Jon Landau stated that if the first movie is a hit, multiple sequels and spin-offs could be produced. The movie was put into development in mid 2005 and later put into production in September 2006, following the successful opening weekend of the first film. Shona Auerbach was attached to direct the project, unlike Jay Russell and Nancy Meyers, who directed the first movie. Meyers did write the screenplay during development.
Release[]
Shirtless Two opened in theaters on April 18, 2008 in the United States and Canada. The film was rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for "raunchy jokes, adult themes, and sex scenes". In the United Kingdom, it received a 12 rating by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
Home media[]
Shirtless Two was released onto DVD and Blu-ray on August 26, 2008. It was then re-released on Blu-ray 3D on December 21, 2010, and would later be re-released in a two-pack on DVD and Blu-ray containing it and the first movie on February 1, 2011. A three-pack DVD containing it, Shirtless, and Shirtless Three would eventually release on May 24, 2014, and would then receive a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray release on August 15, 2017.

TV premiere[]
Shirtless Two first premiered on HBO on December 14, 2009 and later made its way to Starz on January 23, 2010. It would later receive a non-premium cable premiere on MTV on February 11, 2012, where it received 4.43 million viewers. It would then debut on TeenNick and Comedy Central on April 27, 2012 and May 19, 2012, respectively.

At the US box office, Shirtless Two opened on April 18, 2008 alongside The Forbidden Kingdom and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where it grossed $45.3 million on its opening weekend, ranking No. 1. It was the highest opening weekend for a Richard Horwitz Studios film at the time, surpassing the previous film's $34.9 million opening weekend. On it second weekend, it dropped 36.2%, grossing $28.9 million, and still ranking No. 1. On its third weekend, the film dropped 51.1%, grossing $14.1 million, ranking No. 3, well behind newcomer Iron Man and a little behind newcomer Made of Honor.
As of July 17, 2008, Shirtless Two has grossed $146.7 million in the United States and Canada, and $312.6 million in other territories, resulting in a worldwide gross of $459.3 million.
Critical response[]
The film was met with mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, Shirtless Two reports a 63% "fresh" approval score from 237 reviews with an average rating of 5.9/10. The critic consensus reads "While Shirtless Two is a step down from its predecessor, it's still a relatively exciting journey into the characters' minds." On Metacritic, Shirtless Two reports an average score of 46 out of 100 from 36 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave Shirtless Two a "B+" rating from a scale of A+ to F.
Future[]
The further success of the Shirtless franchise, proved by this movie, spawned more sequels and spin-offs, including Shirtless Three in 2012, Shirtless Four in 2016, Growth Spurt in 2018, and Shirtless Five in 2024.
