Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends 2 (or shortened to Foster's 2 or Foster's Home 2 by fans) is a 2021 American animated film produced by Richard Horwitz Studios, Zimmer Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation directed by Craig McCracken with a screenplay by McCracken, Lauren Faust, and Mike Moon. It is a sequel to the 2012 film Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which was based off the 2004-09 animated series of the same name. In the film, Mac, Bloo, Wilt, Eduardo, Coco, Frankie, Cheese, Mr. Herriman and Madame Foster return to New York and discover there is more to real-world life than initially thought. Meanwhille, Terrance and Duchess form a new plan to destroy the cartoon world, and it's up to the Foster's gang to return and save it.
It was released on November 12, 2021 on a simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max release to positive reviews, and grossed over $252.6 million worldwide.

Production[]
A sequel to the 2012 film was announced by Richard Horwitz Studios in September 2016 as a film in development due to the popularity and success that it got. In November 2018, Richard Horwitz Studios announced that they would be partnering with Zimmer Pictures, who had some interest in the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends IP, as well as the Warner Animation Group in order to make the film.
Release[]
The film was originally slated to release on November 12, 2021 before moving to December 24 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in an announcement by Richard Horwitz Studios in September 2020. However, on August 18, 2021, the release was pushed back to its original November 12 slot to avoid competition with The Matrix Resurrections, another Warner Bros. film. As part of Warner Bros.' 2021 theatrical films, it is also getting a 30 day limited release on HBO Max.
- A teaser trailer was uploaded onto Zimmer Pictures' YouTube channel on December 15, 2020, and was shown before Tom & Jerry (2021) among others.

Home media[]
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends 2 was released on Digital HD on February 15, 2022, followed by a DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on March 1, 2022 by Warner Home Video. As of April 2022, the film is available to stream on HBO Max and the Tyson TV streaming app as part of their deal with Richard Horwitz Studios.

Critical reception[]
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends 2 received generally positive reviews. On review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored a 78% "Certified Fresh" rating from 154 critics and an average rating of 6.9/10 with a consensus that reads "As nostalgia-baiting to viewers of the original series and the 2012 original film as it is, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends 2 proves to be a very worthy followup to said 2012 original film." Another review aggregator site Metacritic reported an average rating of 66/100 from 35 critics, indicating "generally positive reviews".
Box office[]
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends 2 opened on November 12, 2021 alongside Clifford The Big Red Dog and Belfast, and was projected to gross $18-24 million in its opening weekend. The film opened with $22.6 million in the United States and Canada, ranking No. 2 behind Marvel Studios' Eternals and ahead of Clifford. In foreign markets, the film made $41.7 million, resulting in a worldwide opening of $64.3 million. On its second weekend, the film increased by 21.6% to $27.5 million in the United States and Canada behind newcomer Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Throughout the Thanksgiving 5-day weekend, the film dropped to grossing $14.1 million throughout the 5 days, now dropping to No. 4. The 3-day weekend was $9.7 million, a 64.7% decline over the previous weekend.
As of January 9, 2022 the film made $91.6 million in domestic markets and an estimated $161 million from foreign markets, resulting in a worldwide total of $252.6 million.
