Disney's ToonTown is a 2014 American action-adventure film directed by Harvey Gardner and Mike Newell from a screenplay by Doug Miro, Edward Kitsis, and Steve Horwitz. Produced by Richard Horwitz Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, the film is loosely based off the 2003 MMORPG ToonTown Online and the land of the same name at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. In the film, two brothers, Aaron and Derek, are brought into the world of ToonTown and discover that they must save it from the ongoing cog takeover.

The film premiered on December 8, 2014 at the El Capitan Theatre and was released in the United States on December 12, 2014, where it received mixed reviews from critics and audiences and became a box office bomb, grossing $196 million worldwide against its $165 million budget, losing Richard Horwitz Studios and Disney around $100 million.

Plot[]

In 2003, young Aaron and Derek receive copies of ToonTown Online for Christmas. They play it in an attempt to beat it until the game's closure in 2013, when the game announced it was going to be shut down. The kids feel guilty over not being able to beat it in time for the shutdown and eventually separate. Fast forward to the future of 2030, Aaron and Derek are living separate lifes with successful careers and decent houses. However, one day when Aaron was taking a different route back home from work, he discovers a strange tunnel that apparently leads to ToonTown Central, the first world of the online game.

Curious, Aaron calls Derek, who is hesitant at first, but eventually he and Aaron look at the tunnel together, where Derek realizes that the game they loved when they were kids is calling to them to finally beat it.
