Big Nate: In a Class by Himself is a 2013 American animated film directed by Jonathon Rupert with a screenplay by Steve Horwitz, based off the 2010 novel of the same name by Lincoln Pierce. It premiered on January 30, 2013 in the United Kingdom and February 9, 2013 at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival and released on February 15, 2013 where it received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, praising the art style and direction, but criticizing the story. It grossed $158.1 million against a $68 million budget.

On April 24, 2010, it was announced that Richard Horwitz Studios that they bought the rights to create animated films based off Lincoln Peirce's graphic novel series Big Nate, which the animated film adaptation was then announced on May 5, 2010 in its development stages, following the success of 20th Century Fox's Diary of a Wimpy Kid adaptation.
The film's art style would follow that of the book, using hand-drawn animation rather than computer animation, and Jonathon Rupert, a storyboard artist of previous Richard Horwitz Studios films, such as The Dot and Dash Movie and Thomas and Friends 2 would be attached to direct the project, Steve Horwitz, Richard Horwitz's brother providing the screenplay.

A video game, titled Big Nate: In a Game by Himself, was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and Microsoft Windows on January 22, 2013.

Big Nate: In a Class by Himself premiered on January 30, 2013 in London and later premiered again on February 9, 2013 during the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival and released worldwide on February 15, 2013. The film was rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for "crude humor and mild violence" while it was rated U in the United Kingdom and Ireland by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and G in Australia by the Australian Classification Board (ACB).

Big Nate: In a Class by Himself was released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray 3D on June 18, 2013. It was later released in a two-pack alongside Big Nate Strikes Again on May 10, 2016 and was later rereleased on DVD and Blu-ray on August 14, 2018. It was released on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray on January 14, 2020.

Big Nate: In a Class by Himself opened in the United States and Canada on the weekend of February 15, 2013, alongside Escape from Planet Earth, A Good Day to Die Hard, and Beautiful Creatures, where it grossed $29.1 million in its opening weekend, ranking No. 1. On its second weekend, it dropped 36.2%, making $18.6 million for the domestic weekend, ranking No. 1. On its third weekend, it dropped 40.7%, making $11 million and ranking No. 2 behind newcomer Jack the Giant Slayer. On its fourth weekend, the film dropped 48.8%, grossing $5.6 million and ranking No. 4 behind Oz the Great and Powerful, Jack the Giant Slayer, and Identify Thief.

On review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Big Nate: In a Class by Himself has an approval rating of 73% with an average rating of 6.1/10 from 173 reviews and a critic consensus that reads "While the book isn't quite feature film-worthy, Big Nate provides big fun to both fans of the book series and new family audiences with its cartoony antics." On Metacritic, which assigns normalized ratings, Big Nate: In a Class by Himself has a score of 60 out of 100, indicating "mixed or average reviews". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an "A" based on a scale from A+ to F.
